Question Cannot use parallel port under 2.6.4

I have been unable to get my parallel port to work under kernel 2.6.4, slackware 9.1. I have searched all of the forums for help without any success. I have tried compiling lp, parport and portport_pc as modules and as part of the kernel, nothing has worked. If I boot with the default 2.4.3 kernel the port is set up perfectly and my printer works fine. I am using a HP Deskjet 722c winprinter with a pnm2ppa driver.

Is there something else i should be compiling into the kernel?

I have also tried all of the different parallel port settings in the BIOS.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

Try uncommenting the entire code bits in rc.modules relating to pc style parallel port if it isn't already - I know I had to for 2.6.4 but with 2.4 I didn't have to.

I tried uncommenting the parallel port lines in rc.modules and it allowed me to see the port, but it would not route jobs to the printer.

I did find a modprobe option in rc.modules that will allow me to use my printer though.

I just do the following after boot:

modprobe parport_pc io=0x378 irq=7
modprobe lp

And everything works great. If I leave those lines uncommented in rc.modules it doesn't work.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!!

Does anyone know a way for me to pass these parameters to the parport_pc module at boot time?
