can't connect to the net with laptop

I just installed Slack on Dell Inspiron 9100 and am working through the details of getting it up and running. Right now the big hurdle has turned out to be the onboard ethernet. I hook it up to my DSL modem but I get nothing. Upon bootup, this is the error that I get...

dhcpdc[152] : timed out waiting for a valid DHCP server response

b44: eth0: BUG! Timeout waiting for bit 80000000 of register 428 to clear.

b44: eth0: BUG! Timeout waiting for bit 00000002 of register 42c to clear.

Btw, I run netconfig and set it up to connect via DHCP and it still does this.

I'm thinking maybe there's something special that I need to do to set up the ethernet with it being onboard.

What do ya think?

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.
