Can't believe how smooth install went - but one problem
I just got done installing a new harddrive(80GB) all for linux. I ordered my slackware 9.0 CD and today I started the partition and install. I can't believe how smooth the install went, I thought it would be much harder. I love the way the installation screens are setup, clear and consise. What I am more suprised about is that my PC is pretty new(~8 months old) and almost all my hardware was recognized without any tweeking, including the nVidia Geforce4 - my X looks pretty good. I know I have more tweeking to do, but I was so worried that my harddrive wouldn't be recognized or my IDE controller wouldn't be found etc. Once I am in, I can spend time tweeking things. I haven't used Linux since the Redhat 5.2 days, I can't believe how sophisticated KDE has become in terms of the GUI look. I think it looks better than WInXP. I am also dual booting with WinX with no problems, without any boot diskeete, just using the NT boot loader. I guess you guys are right, once you go Slack you never go back!
But I did get one wierd error message during the install that I wanted to ask you guys about. What does it mean, and do I need to be worried? Here it is.....
The number of cylinders for this disk is set to 9729
There is nothing wrong with that, but this is larger than 1024
and could in certain setups cause problems with
1.) Software that runs at boot time(e.g.,old versions of LILO)
2.) booting and partitioning software from other OSs
(e.g., Dos FDISK, OS/2 FDISK)
