Hi there,
after upgrading to the latest Slackware64-current of 6th March, 2010, with CUPS 1.4.2 I have a few problems with printing.
I have two printers, a Kyocera laser printer and a Brother MFC-290C.
Kyocera FS-1010
After dropping the PPD file the Kyocera was automaticall set up, and I was able to print a test page. Printing generally seems to work with the Kyo.
Irritating: I cannot change the default settings for page size and so on, not even as root, in the web UI. Only option I can change is eco mode, which is only useful for printing drafts. But the default settings seem ok, so this isn't a big problem.
Brother MFC-290C
I followed the advice in
installing a "MFC210C" Brother Printer on Slackware, and at first sight everything seemed to be alright. I could change the default settings for paper size and so on, and I can even scan.
But: For printing CUPS uses the same USB connection for the MFC as for the Kyocera, and sends print jobs to the Kyo, which, of course, ends up in a lot of paper waste.
Question here is:
How can I make CUPS send print jobs to the correct USB connection for the Brother MFC?
I cannot edit the connection in the CUPS web UI, and in fact, I never had to, before, as I only had to select the connection from a drop-down box, as far as I recall.
How could I track this down? Is it Slackware64 related, or is it an issue of CUPS 1.4.2 as such?
Thanks for any hint!
