Unhappy XFree86 problems...

Hello!

I have Fedora Core 1 installed on my system and I runned up2date. Everything went well but when it went on installing it get a weird error. After a reboot I noticed that X11 does no longer work. I had to reinstall all the rpm packages of XFree86 to get it working. Unfortunetly after installing I was getting an error saying it can not open fonts. The error was:

(II) DevInputMice: ps2EnableDataReporting: succeeded
Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo/, removing from list!
AUDIT: Sat Apr 17 01:12:27 2004: 3511 X: client 4 rejected from local host

I then went to the XFree86Config file and removed the line that said:

FontPath "unix/:7100"

I then runned startx and for my surprise it worked... But unfortunetly there is no text I can see. I then runned FireFox web browser and in it the fonts works normal. Also in terminal fonts work. But in rest everywhere it should be text it's a small blank place.

Please someone help me. I am kinda a newbie ...

Check 'xfs' - if it was upgraded, if you have it in your system, if it is running...Xfs is X font server, your problems are probably connected with xfs not running or broken. When you make it running you'd need to add the line back.

Thank you for your fast reply. I reinstalled xfs and put that line back. Now evan with that line I don't get errors but still the fonts don't work.

I think I'm having a similar problem to yours. I'm not certain. In FireFox (an any other web browser I've tried) text displays correctly. On buttons, toolbars, etc fonts don't show. On mine I can tell there is text there but appears as a tiny thin line (tiny as in a few pixels tall) in the toolbars or buttons, or text editors (X not console).
I was wondering if no text is displayed at all or do you see a tiny line as well. (I didn't realize the lines were text until I opened a C file up in a editor and all the structures were the proper colour. Only unreadable).
