Problems with Xfree86

I have been having trouble with X windows on RH linux of late. I am runing RH 7.1 and everything installs fine. However after I have run for a while and go through a couple of reboots X refuses to load. I get a message:

Could not init font path element unix/:7100, removing from list!
Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'

I've had this happen 3 times now and have been unable to find a solution to make X function. Does anyone have an idea as to how to fix this?

I got that error once when my hard drive got totally full. Make sure you've got some space with 'df' or temporary files and such won't work.

THat's onyl a vague solution though.

did you try to upgrade anything just before you started getting the font problem. usually we see fonts not getting loaded because the font package wasn't included when X was upgraded.

I have plenty of disk space, and I haven't done any upgrades. The only thing I have done is install a software package on it that has no relation to X at all. Any other ideas?
