username and password not recognised


hi,

NIS client is working fine, username and password not working for the user.

root is working fine.

using RH Enterprise linux 2.6.9-55.ELsmp.

Please let us know how to proceed.

You didn't get us much information to help you debugging....but here it goes: What does "getent passwd|grep <username>" gi you?

Can you reset their password incase they are typing it wrong?

Are you getting any errors?

Any other user besides superusers not working?

Using local auth or kerberos?

Did you try checking the logs? Try checking /var/log/auth.log (thats where it is in my distro, but it could be different from yours).
