Unable to play mp3. Error says: could not find plugin for mplayer2

Hi friends,
I use RedHat 9 .
I am unable to play songs. The error says unable to get plugin mplayer2. What is this "mplayer" and what all should I load to get this working. Actually I have all the 3 CDs of RedHat with me. So, if anyone can guide me through the process of loading the mplayer (or tips to know whether it is loaded already), I would be very thankful.

Kindly suggest.

Regards,
Sreeram

What you need to play mp3's is a mp3 decoder. Redhat wont ship the decoder with there distro cause it a commerical codecs. they leave it up to the user to install it. You can go to www.freshrpms.org or com and download the xmms-mp3 plugin rpm. MPlayer is a media player they have that at site as well. You need libdvdcss to decrypt dvd's.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I visited the site www.freshrpms.com ,but I failed to identify the xmms-mp3 plugin and also I failed to download the same. Are there any other means, from where I can freely download the x-mplayer2 ? If yes, kindly suggest.

Regards,
Sreeram

Here http://ftp.freshrpms.net/pub/freshrp...at/9/xmms-mp3/
It I made a error. I haven't used red hat in so long. It was .net not .com. Use google to look for a working plugin. One exists. If not go to www.xmms.org and download and compile xmms. Xmms has it in the code.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. Can this run windows media songs? Basically I get that error when I try to run songs of the windows media format. Which application should I use to run the windows media format songs? Where can I download it?

Please inform.

Thanks,
Sreeram
