System slows/ SCSI bus error?

Hi All,

I have been running Redhat 9 with no problems since may. Today I was running about 5 applications (Mozilla, grip, xmms, 2 terminals). Usually this is handled with no problem. After an hour of working (editing some files), the system slowed to a standstill; music, mouse, grip sputtered. Called up task window, could not see a problem, no strange processes. Reboot machine, problem fixed itself, checked /var/log/messages, here is what I found:

Jan 19 16:50:31 hildegard2 kernel: SCSI error: host 0 id 0 lun 0 return code = 18000002
Jan 19 16:50:31 hildegard2 kernel: ^ISense class 0, sense error 0, extended sense 0
Jan 19 16:50:31 hildegard2 kernel: scsi0 channel 0 : resetting for second half of retries.
Jan 19 16:50:31 hildegard2 kernel: SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0.
Jan 19 16:50:31 hildegard2 kernel: hdd: ide_intr: huh? expected NULL handler on exit
Jan 19 16:50:31 hJan 19 16:50:31 hildegard2 kernel: sr0: CDROM (ioctl) error, command: Test Unit Ready 00 00 00 00 00
Jan 19 16:50:31 hildegard2 kernel: sr00:00: old sense key None
Jan 19 16:50:31 hildegard2 kernel: Non-extended sense class 0 code 0x0
Jan 19 16:50:31 hildegard2 kernel: scsi0 channel 0 : resetting for second half of retries.
Jan 19 16:50:31 hildegard2 kernel: SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0.
Jan 19 16:50:31 hildegard2 kernel: hdd: ide_intr: huh? expected NULL handler on exit
Jan 19 16:50:31 hildegard2 kernel: hdd: ATAPI reset complete
Jan 19 16:50:31 hildegard2 kernel: scsi0 channel 0 : resetting for second half of retries.
Jan 19 16:50:32 hildegard2 kernel: SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0.
Jan 19 16:50:32 hildegard2 kernel: hdd: ide_intr: huh? expected NULL handler on exit
Jan 19 16:50:32 hildegard2 kernel: hdd: ATAPI reset complete

...... This was repeated over and over and over, untill I rebooted...

---------------------------------
Anybody see this before?

Thanks in advance,
Steve Weppner

First try disconnecting you burner and see if the problems go away. If they
try replacing the ide cable on the cd burner.
