Unhappy no modules loading on boot after minor oracle patching. RHEL4 AS

Linux 2.6.9-5.ELsmp #1
Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (Nahant)
Dell PowerEdge 2950.

Hi peeps,

I ran into an issue when patching oracle9i. Something seemed to mess with my NICs as I lost both and kudzu kept prompting for hardware change on reboot.

The patching I did for oracle I have carried out on other oracle installs without incident so I am not sure if this is even the cause.

Original issue was
Quote:
bnx2 device - eth0 does not seem to be present.
Command failed /sbin/modprobe bnx2. Module bnx2 not found.
I noticed the file permissions on /lib/modules/2.6.9-5.ELsmp/kernel/drivers/net/bnx2.ko had been altered so I changed them back.

After restarting and googling various phrases and tinkering, I could start NIC's by running
Code:
insmod bnx2.ko
.

Problem is, no kernel mods are loading upon boot anymore.
Code:
[root@server1 etc]# modprobe -l
[root@server1 etc]#
I have not done any updates or changes on a kernel level.

In comparison, our other linux servers here display over 850 lines when this command is run.

I have poked around the ini scripts but I do not know what specifically to look for or check.

Can anyone please assist??

Sorry, I realised after post I was missing this.

I checked modprobe.conf, it is the same. I'll post more details after I log back into work and get some data.

I cannot see a difference between the servers after a fair bit of poking around.

modprobe.conf....

alias scsi_hostadapter mptspi
alias scsi_hostadapter1 mptspi
alias scsi_hostadapter3 megaraid_sas
alias usb-controller ehci-hcd
alias usb-controller1 uhci-hcd
alias scsi_hostadapter0 megaraid_mbox
alias eth0 bnx2
alias scsi_hostadapter2 mptscsih
alias eth1 bnx2

I have checked ini startup scripts, nothing stands out. Checked dmesg as well but not really sure what to look for. Everything seems to boot okay, no modules load though. Other servers all list hundreds of modules loaded. (modprobe -l)

I really need help with this. I have a lot to deploy on this server but do not want to proceed with something not right like this.

Thumbs up

Hi all,

Thanks for looking and thanks twantrd for the reply, I have solution.

My

I regenerated this file with...
