manually updating RedHat 7.2

Hi all
I went to see RedHat's FTP site and saw a few updates for 7.2 (such as 2.4.20 kernel RPM for Athlon).

How can I apply these updates if I want to only manually download?

Thanks...

RH newbie :-(

Download into a directory somewhere on your system, use rpm to update your system. If any dependencies are required then you may need to download them as well.

rpm -Fvh <packagename>.rpm should work fine on all packages you wish to update...however, if you update the kernel, PLEASE use the following syntax:

rpm -ivh <kernel-packagename>.rpm

This will install the new kernel but not overwrite the old one. This is good because if you boot up the new kernel and your system doesn't work properly you can always fall back to the older kernel.
