how exactly are you logging in, do you use ssh or telnet or are you actually using the window manager?

Actually I am logging in using window manager. I found the reason , that's because my /etc/passswd has crashed
.How do I recover this ?. Or if you know the some other reasons give some ideas.

you should be able to view the /etc/passwd if it looks all mashed up then i cant help but you should have something like this

Code:
root:x:0:0:root:/root:/bin/bash
i have like 43 lines of text with pretty much all our users on plus some extras like webaliser and ftp.

you could try searching the etc folder as follows
Code:
ls -l "pass*"
and see if you get a passwd- or similar if you view it and it looks like the above root:x and so on then cp passwd- passwd reboot and try again

hope it helps
