reduce countdown timer delay in boot-up

I recently installed Puppy Slacko 6.3.o to the HDD of an elderly Toshiba Satellite.
It is the only system on the laptop, but during boot-up I am still offered 10 seconds to choose between Puppy or Windows.

Is it possible (or safe) to remove the Windows option so that boot-up moves straight into Puppy?

Failing that, can I reduce the 10 second default? Although less elegant, that would save an appreciable amount of time.

I found a description of how to do this with Ubuntu:

http://helpforlinux.blogspot.ca/2009...in-ubuntu.html

but Puppy seems to keep this file elsewhere, and before rooting around looking for it, I would prefer to eliminate the Windows option. (I would nonetheless like to know where this file lives)

Thanks

Puppy stores the boot time in menu.lst, usually in the root dir.

You can just reduce the time to 0 or 1 second.

Make a backup first of menu.lst.

You should be able to delete this section.

i would drop it to 3 sec. and NOT zero

the first time you HAVE TOO / NEED TOO boot into a old kernel and CAN NOT do to it being set at 0

you will reset it to 3
