Exclamation Puppy Installation (USB) gone wrong

Henlo.
Using an ECS Elitegroup A530 as a test subject I tried to install Puppy Linux 5.0.1.

After the system tried to create a savefile, something went wrong. The savefile probably was corrupted because I couldn't boot. Not even purging worked.
Using the ram boot option says the MAIN SYSTEM FILE is missing (forgot its name)

What do I do? Format the disk? It worked right after installing it.

The pen drive was plugged in at all times.

Make another pendrive. A spare. Boot it up.

Plug in your puppy usb drive.

Open gparted in your live run. Find the puppy pen drive. Unmount first with right click.
After it unmounts. Right click and pick check.

After it is done. Shutdown everything and unplug drives with power off.
Then try puppy drive.

I am guessing you corrupted the puppy pen drive file system with a dirty unmount. This happens sometimes without user knowledge with the knees.

Forgot to mention. If you think savefile is to blame.

You can find it puppy home with a .sfs label with the name you gave it.
During the live run I suggested above.

Delete it. Reboot with only the puppy pendrive.

Errr. You missed my point entirely with making another pen drive to assist fixing the one you have broken.

That is how you open gparted.

Nothing opened does not tell me much.
I use
https://scrot.moe/

when I wish to post screenshots of things not working for me.

Edit: I will be stepping out for a motorcycle ride. Someone else can take over.

Lupu-501.sfs not found. Dropping out to initial-randisk console.
/bin/sh: can't access tty, job control turned off.

Dunno why. Opened it in Windows XP and, tada! there it was.

@ CykaBlyatRushB:-

Welcome to LQ! Two things:-

1) Need more info on what an ECS Elitegroup A530 is, exactly. Web searches indicate there's tons of different variations on these things.....and I have no idea who makes 'em, either. The 'net is being particularly unhelpful on these machines tonight.

It's kinda like telling us you have a Ford Mustang, without any more detail. Is it old? Is it new? What engine has it got? What body style? Is it stock? Is it customized? (And we don't even have Mustangs over here in the UK..!) Etc., etc.

1a) CPU; amount of RAM (important for Puppy); graphics card....etc. That kinda thing. If you don't know, or can't find out, can you be more specific with the model number(s)?

----------------------------------------------

2) Without knowing any more than you've told us, I'm curious as to why you're using Lupu 5.01? It's ancient, and I doubt you'll get any modern software to run on it at all.

The beauty of Puppy is that there's so many variations, it would be truly astonishing if you weren't able to find one that'll revive your old hardware. I take it you're a newbie, where Pup's concerned? Have you any Linux experience at all?

Need that info on the machine itself first, though.

----------------------------------

@ Roky:-

It's the old problem again, isn't it? The USB 'timing' thing, where the initrd is trying to set everything up before it's even had time to find the main SFS.

I know the newer Pups have solved that one; hence why we need to know what the hardware is. I'm sure the OP can run summat newer than 5.0.1, of that I an absolutely certain.....

Mike.
