I wanted to install Gcc On Puppy 5.2.8
I have a live Cd and want to write and then compile C programs.
I have been doing this on UBUNT for a little while now but Ubuntu already has gcc so I didn't have to do anything.
I can't even figure out where to save it to, I can't navigate the system.
According to the Puppy website:
To use this file is very simple. Download it from the Internet (it is about 90MB) and save to /mnt/home (the same place as the "pupsave.2fs" file, that is, your saved session).
I can't find this location and I have searched my computer and the internet.
Seems most people know the file system already.
I know absolutely nothing about Puppy Linux.

I think the instructions are referring to a frugal install of puppy to the harddrive. when you downloaded the lupu_devx_528-4.sfs, where was it saved at? was it saved in a location on your hardrive, if so it will be in the /mnt/home or some other /mnt/directory, it also might be in the root directory or one of it's subfolders, to mount a disk, clicking on the diskicons at the bottom of the screen will usually autompunt the disk
In the menu use "setup/puppy setup/sfs-load on the fly" to load sfs files

No I don't want anything on the hard drive. I have a live CD and I want to keep it that way. CanI still run gcc? Do I have to install it every time I run Puppy?

The development files have to be somewhere to be able to access them. To have them on the cd you will have to remaster the cd to have the development files on the cd. I've never remastered a cd before but there are some howto's floating around on the web. There is an option in the menu under setup to remaster a cd also, but have never used it
