Computer dead ?

Glad I had a backup computer.

My Hp 6730b will not go beyond it's opening screen when cold booting.

I got to use a rescue pendrive once and reset the mbr etc.

Now will not let me boot to a rescue USB drive either.

This may not be related, but I recently installed Ubuntu.

Anything else I can try ?

Is it a laptop or desktop?

If desktop motherboard may be cause of failure. Or just dust and loose connectors.

Laptop.

It started working again.

I periodically take apart my laptop to do maintenance.

(They really have things crammed in there compared to desktop systems.)

Years ago, I drilled some holes in the bottom of the laptop years ago.

And I installed an external fan that blows air thru those holes.

It allows more cooling of the CPU.

It reduced the hard drive and cpu temperatures quite a bit.

There may be a build up of dust.

Try swapping the RAM sticks out, especially if you have two RAM sticks or extra ones to test with.
