Central time zone to GMT

I live in the Central time zone.

How do I figure out which GMT to use ?

My clock did not go ahead by one hour. :-(

The US Central Daylight Time (CDT) is UTC-5 hours. The fixed timezone is GMT-5.

Thanks.

From what I read, setting the clock to CST will not change the time during Daylight Savings.

That's why I wanted to set it to GMT.

You may be able to outrun the cop car, but not the Motorola radio. :-)

Are asking about setting time zones or just setting the current time?

Do you want the clock to read local time or UTC (GMT)?
Do you want the timezone to be displayed as local or UTC?

I just want DST to update automatically.

I missed first service this morning.

I'm hoping that puppy has zdump. Post the output of the command:

zdump -v /etc/localtime |grep 2016

What about

zdump -v /etc/localtime | head -10

I don't how puppy differs with time zones settings compared to a regular distribution.

Looks like I should have stuck with CST instead of GMT.

Puppy says

Quote:
Finding the correct entry is best, as it automatically applies DST, whereas the GMT entries are fixed offsets from the GMT(UTC) reference.
I had it set to CST, but my clock did not go ahead by one hour. ??

Change back to CST and post the same information.

Looks reasonable. Interesting that 2016 is blank?
Code:
zdump -v /usr/share/zoneinfo/posix/America/Chicago | grep 2016
/usr/share/.../America/Chicago Sun Mar 13 07:59:59 2016 UTC = Sun Mar 13 01:59:59 2016 CST isdst=0 gmtoff=-21600
/usr/share/.../America/Chicago Sun Mar 13 08:00:00 2016 UTC = Sun Mar 13 03:00:00 2016 CDT isdst=1 gmtoff=-18000
/usr/share/.../America/Chicago Sun Nov 6 06:59:59 2016 UTC = Sun Nov 6 01:59:59 2016 CDT isdst=1 gmtoff=-18000
/usr/share/.../America/Chicago Sun Nov 6 07:00:00 2016 UTC = Sun Nov 6 01:00:00 2016 CST isdst=0 gmtoff=-21600
I replaced zoneinfo/posix with /../ for readability.
