Thanks guys.

Now it's time to make a script to automate the process.

Does puppy run as root? Or is it just a user with sudo privileges?

Puppy is designed for those who are responsible and it's default is root.

There are 2 other accounts that are non-root.

In the continuing process of learning Linux, I have done dumb things and trashed my system, but no problem as I back up new work and disk images to an external drive.

It takes 6 minutes to restore all of my partitions.

I do a lot of work requiring work and appreciate not have to type sudo or a password for every task I do.

Others do not like running as root which is their privilege.

Are you considering giving it a spin ?

(If you decide, Puppy 5.7 and Tahr 6.0 are good.)

Everything is put into ram, so it is really fast.

For example, download speeds are about 4 times what Windows can do.

Good luck.

I've tried puppy, AntiX & other light-weight distro's, although I started with debian. I found out that if I have a slow machine I could just install a different desktop, install whatever tools to it & it would run almost as fas as pupppy or the others. I have a few machines however that were very low on processor speed & memory but, haven't fired them up because of the amount of space they take up. If I ever get the space I may just fire up my dell optiplex gx1 & give it a whirl, but the wife complains about having too many things out. I just have too many machines & most of them have atleast a gig or more of ram, so I'm at the point that if I can't get a space to host some kind of free computer training for children, I'll probably be forced to get rid of them.

@ Fixit7

Here is an easy way to tell if a iso you downloaded is hybrid or not by using the file command.

Code:
file linuxmint-17.2-mate-64bit.iso
linuxmint-17.2-mate-64bit.iso: DOS/MBR boot sector; partition 2 : ID=0xef, start-CHS (0x3ff,254,63), end-CHS (0x3ff,254,63), startsector 3318456, 4672 sectors
If you see a DOS/MBR then it is a hybrid iso and you can use the dd command to write it to a usb stick and make it bootable. I done it many times and it works.

Code:
dd if=linuxmint-17.2-mate-64bit.iso of=/dev/sdx bs=4M
replace sdx with your actual usb drive letter

NOTE: I've done this many times and it works every time as long as the iso you downloaded is a genuine hybrid iso. However, if you use the isohybrid command to make a regular ISO-9660 iso into a hybrid, there is no guarantees.

Back on topic, If you see something like this
Code:
file pclinuxos64-kde-2014.12.iso
pclinuxos64-kde-2014.12.iso: # ISO 9660 CD-ROM filesystem data 'livecd 2014121800:04' (bootable)
If you see a ISO 9660 CD-ROM filesystem, then the dd method will not work. It may copy the contents to the usb stick but it will not be bootable. You will need to use unetbootin, or other usb creating software or other manual steps which are many on the web.

Taking the Oct 27 Ubuntu-mate iso, xenial-desktop-amd64.iso, both before and after running isohybrid, I get
Code:
~/Desktop$ file xenial-desktop-amd64.iso
xenial-desktop-amd64.iso: ISO 9660 CD-ROM filesystem data 'Ubuntu-MATE 16.04 LTS amd64' (bootable)
However, the iso was dd'able even before running isohybrid. That being said, I don't believe I've ever messed up an iso by running isohybrid on it
