Alsa sound wizard won't detect onboard sound

I have an old IBM 300pl with a 6892-N8U motherboard, it has built in sound and an onboard speaker, but when I try to get puppy 2.10 to play anything, nothing happens. I tried the setup wizard and it just tried to detect pci and isa soundcards. Gxine shows the mp3 being played for a fraction of a second, and when I set it to repeat, it shows that song being played for a fraction of a second over and over again, very quickly.

Did you tell alsaconf to scan ALL IRQ and DMA settings? Looks like you got a Cirrus Logic 4235B. When you get to the section where you select which module you want to try and load, select the cs4232, probe for all IRQ and DMAs and then see what happens.

Also, you may wanna try and disable some things on the motherboard's BIOS that you don't use too. That somehow helped me when I was having audio troubles with my laptop.

Ahhh, thanks, I will try that! My guess is bios. Just had a similar problem getting anything to recognize the hard drive on my laptop, had to disable some kind of sata support in bios.
