Incorrect entry in "View new posts", "The threads below ..."
Fully read thread listed

Hello Jeremy and team :)

At the bottom of the last page of the "Quick Links" search "View new posts" there is a list headed "The threads below have not been updated since your last visit but contain unread posts".

I vaguely recall exploring entries in this list a couple of times, finding no posts matching the description and deciding to ignore the list in future.

Just now there was a perfect example to report as a bug. Screenshot available here. The thread shown has only two posts -- the OP and my reply. Clearly I read the OP (or could not have replied) and presumably my own post is not included in the unread count.

In case it is relevant:
  • Very unusually I had entered the reply via the "Quick reply" facility.
  • I had shut down my computer between posting and using "View new posts"
  • The browser is Firefox 3.5.3 running on Slackware 13.0.
    • The only enabled extensions are British English Dictionary and NoScript 1.9.9.18 which is configured to allow linuxquestions.org but none of the other script providers listed on linuxquestions.org pages.
    • The only enabled plugins are "Default plugin", "Scalable Vector Graphics" and "Shockwave Flash".
    • Preferences are configured to enable cookies for all sites and delete them on closing Firefox except that linuxquestions.org is (the only) site allowed in exceptions with the effect that linuxquestions.org cookies are not deleted on closing Firefox.
Best

Charles

Charles, because you used the quick reply, the thread hadn't been reloaded and is considered unread. While this is the expected behavior, I'd agree that it's not very intuitive. We'll see if we can get it addressed in a future release. Thanks for the bug report.
