The XAPPLRESDIR enviroment variable.

Hello.

I am learning x window programming from a tutorial. Things are making sense but the tutorial says
Quote:
For your own resource file directory, you can specify its location in the environment variable XAPPLRESDIR. A standard location is the directory .app-defaults in your home directory"
I get what this will do but I don't know how to set the environment variable. Does anybody know how to set the environment variable XAPPLRESDIR?

Thanks

Just set it like any other variable. The way to do it will depend on the shell or environment you use to launch the X application.

I'm quite new to linux/GNU (though not abismally new). I use fedora 8.

I'm not sure how I would set an environment variable, but I think I found something that shows how to do it.

Thanks

Under POSIX compatible shells, the syntax is:
Code:
export XAPPLRESDIR=...
