Unhappy pipe using no pipe

I have a problem using c/c++.i have been asked to create an IPC mechanism between 2 processes.A pipe like method only using no pipes!
Can anyone HELP!???????

Perhaps you could use semaphores, or a client/server method. Search google for "interprocess communication" to turn up a large list of options.
