open gnome terminal (and pass commands ) on clicking a glade button

i am working on a small project for making a small configuration tool for ubuntu 9.10 for new linux users, that can help them to make their system working easily without knowledge of the linux commands.

I created a gui in glade and loaded the gui with my python program to show up, now i wish to have some python codes that can launch a gnome terminal (and also pass some linux commands to it) on the click of a button contained in the glade file.

I am not an experienced and professional programmer and m new to programming, so would like to have some help.
thank you.
hope i get an early positive reply.

I'm not sure how to get gnome-terminal to act that way.

With mrxvt, I use the following to have "command" executed, and then
the terminal is held open for me to see the result - but no further
commands can be run in that terminal window.

Code:
mrxvt -hold 1 -e command
