I have been recently reading up on network programming (I've never done any network code before) for the sake of writing a Multiplayer Game server.
This has also lead me to think about threads. I have been thinking about using GNU Portable Threads, even though portability is not an issue whatsoever. Or perhaps for the sake of keeping things simple using SDL_threads.
Do the hardened veterans of these boards have any advice relating to this ? Are there any other options which are good ? Any recommended readings or warnings ?
Multithreaded coding is a topic in its own right. Make sure you understand things related to concurrency like proper locking, mutexes, re-entrancy and so on.
Glib provides some nice threading constructs for C that make things easy.
Yes threading seems like a whole new level. I plan to learn through mistakes I think there's going to be a lot of them. I have a clue, but that's about it. Another great adventure.
