help with my first hack?

I have little programming experience, safe to say none...
Ive been for the past two years going from distro to distro. I have since decided on Debian. The reason I decided this is its free as in beer. It has massive amounts of packages, a package dependency tool. Lots of security updates, and a good community. I have chose Ubuntu as a Debian variant because it is almost has the same things that I want in a distro, plus bleeding edge support, good forums, I will edit this again, on with the point of my post

I want to recompile all my computer for KDE with all multimedia, even if its not legal in the states, I'm in Canada. And then make a live CD that I could install on any computer or share with a friend.

What I'm looking to do is to have apt, pull the source for a file, calculate its dependencies, build them all, install them, and make copies of the built files in a /built lets say directory, so as to share them with other mates that don't want to compile.
I'm looking to compile at my march=athlon-xp with medium -02 optimization. SO it is safe compile. I don't want prelinking because it always crashes my computer for some reason.

I do not want another distro. and don't want to fill up this post with reasons why.

So if someone could "hold my hand" through my adventure that would be great.

So I guess for now I ll take some suggestions on how to do this, and Ill edit this post to make it neater and to the point, and offer my idea on how to do this, if its any better then yours. I will be doing the work, but I would appreciate the wisdom , thanks.

You probably seen it already, why not give LSB a go?
