Extra data from media file

Does anyone know of a program used to extract data from a media file (audio and video), only retrieving each piece of information separately for use in a bash script?

For instance:
  1. type of encoding
  2. bitrate
  3. framerate
  4. frame dimensions
  5. duration

Most of the ID3 info is stored towards the end of the file, grab a script (any language) that extracts the data and see how it gets it. Can't remember exactly but it's towards the back.

EDIT: Seems with ID3v2 it's at the start as opposed to the end. Some useful info here.
