Question curl help

curl -o testing.html -x 162.114.40.32:8080 http://www.google.com

I am trying to run the above command.
What it should do according to my knowledge is that access google.com page through 162.114.40.32 proxy and save the contents in testing.html file.

The command gets executed but the file is not created.
What might be the reason.I have checked the proxy and that's not bad. its OK.

Please help me in this regard.

Are you sure the proxy is an HTTP proxy? Might it be a SOCKS4/5 proxy? In any case, did you try using the “--verbose” or “--trace” options?

ohhh !!

I am sorry !

I was trying that command through a php script. There is some problem with the php script that is not creating the file. I tried this directly in linux command window, and that worked.

Thanks anyways!

You could also make a ~/.curlrc file:
$ cat .curlrc
--proxy 162.114.40.32:8080 --proxytunnel -c $HOME/cookies.txt

Then you don't have to enter that on the command line.

I'm sure google doesn't care if you are using a proxy. I use google through a proxy all the time. Most likely it's the proxy. Some proxy's are designed to restrict internet access to only "business related" web sites.
