Question Better buying "advanced linux prog" or "unix advanced prog"

Hi,

I intend to understand unix & i work on a linux station (rh & slack).

I planed to buy the stevens' "adv.Unix prog" anf found out that a
linux adv prog was existing too.

The both have a good rating on amazon.

The Stevens seems to be the absolute reference. Does it remain the reference
in a linux station, or the linux book is more suited?

Thanks

The Linux book maybe a bit more precise if you only use Linux. Having read about half of "Advanced Linux Programming" I would say that its not too Linux-specific.

Another point that you may want to consider is that the book "Advanced Linux Programming" is downloadable entirely for free (!) in the form of nice PDF's, layed out just like the book. (one PDF for each chapter).

See the "downloads" link at:

I have to agree with infamous41md

Richard W. Stevens is the best author
for programming in the *nix environment
bar none. I'm considering buying a second
copy of APUE b/c the one I own is in disrepair
from constant use.

Stevens is to UNIX/Networking what Knuth is
to algorithms.
