XMMS Problem

Hi,
I encountered the following problems.

1. After a pretty dafault and uneventful install I could not play music in XMMS. I could load songs into the playlist but dbl-clicking on any song would freeze XMMS I uninstalled XMMS, and reinstalled rom CDs but nothing changed. However, when I created a shortcut on the desktop )(instead of using Mandrake's item on the menu) it works ok

2. When I try to minimize XMMS by clicking on Minimize buttons of the player it minimizes OK, but the playlist and the EQ stay up on the screen. Whe I try to minimize those they are shaded instead of being minimized.

Anybody had the same problem.
I will appreciate any help.

you need to change the preferences in XMMS to use ALSA - i had the same issue.

Options -> preferences then change the output plugin to ALSA.

As for the EQ and Playlist problem, everyone with the latest XMMS and KDE version have this problem. It's a bug with KDE, either get the latest KDE version or x.xx.8 version of XMMS (cant remember rest of version number...)

If you dont want to do either of them, either put xmms on a different desktop or unselect EQ and playlist, then minimize.

An easier solution is to just create a new xmms shortcut with only 'xmms' as target command

Cheers

Thanks for all the answers.

Problem #1 is not a biggie as I had solved it by creating my own shortcut on the desktop.

As for #2, I upgraded whatever Mandrake Upgrade flagged as upgradable (using their package updater) but still no go.

Do I have to download KDE sources and compile them?
If so, is there anyone who would point me to the right direction, preferably some step-by-step for dummies kind of info?

Thank you.

Hello everyone,

....because you guys are on the topic of XMMS and a lack of music playing, any chance you could take a stab at this one for me?

I have XMMS installed and it seems to be running fine, with the exception that it has no out-put what so ever. I can see the time running, but no sound or input to the oscilloscope.....?

Does this mean I have an in-put that is incorrectly configured?

Thanks,
Eric.

Oh, something more: I seem not to be able to play CDs or shoutcast streams, but I can play streams from win-Amp just fine.

Any ideas?
Eric.

Hey revenge80200,

I had the same issue with 9.0 and 9.1, it was due to ALSA, the sound volume on the alsa sound mixer (alsa-soundmixer is the command i think) was turned down to 0, if you crank that up, and make sure that XMMS is using ALSA as tha audio output, it should work fine! Or if that doesn't work, you could try changing the output pluggin to perhaps aRTS (which worked for me before i realised ALSA was turned down).

Hope it helps!
