Wireless on my Aspire 1694

Hello everyone.
I have a big problem here, and even if I try it seems I'm not able to solve it. I hope you are.
I've got an Acer Aspire 1694WLMi and my lspci output is:
....
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc M24 1P [Radeon Mobility X600]
06:01.0 CardBus bridge: Texas Instruments Texas Instruments PCIxx21/x515 Cardbus Controller
06:01.2 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Texas Instruments Texas Instruments OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller
06:01.3 Unknown mass storage controller: Texas Instruments Texas Instruments PCIxx21 Integrated FlashMedia Controller
06:03.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG (rev 05)
06:08.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5788 Gigabit Ethernet (rev 03)

I installed Mandriva LE2005 and I tried to configure wireless...I failed.
I have IPW2200 installed, version 1.0.1 I think, and acerhk support in the kernel, but all my special keys don't work, the wireless led included.
My iwconfig output is:
eth0 unassociated ESSIDff/any
Mode:Managed Channel=0 Access Point: 00:00:00:00:00:00
Bit Rate=0 kb/s Tx-Power=20 dBm
RTS thrff Fragment thrff
Encryption keyff
Power Managementff
Link Quality:0 Signal level:0 Noise level:0
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

I read in other threads, in this forum, something about firmware....I don't have any "firmware" dir in "/usr/lib/hotplug", is this normal?

I tried everything I could think, but no way....
I hope someone will be able to help me, even because I know the same wi-fi card, in the same laptop works great in a Gentoo system - lirmm.fr/~yousfi/divers/acer/ -...
Thanks everyone.
Bye

Giuse

If your kernel has IPW2200 support, don't use it. Use the drivers from "http://ipw2200.sourceforge.net/". The same for "acerhk".
For the led to work, you will need to use IPW2200 version 1.0.2 or greater. Try the latest one 1.0.6.
Load the driver with the option "led=1":

modprobe ipw2200 led=1

To use IPW2200, you need to have the firmware. You can find it in "http://ipw2200.sourceforge.net/".
Download the firmware corresponding to the IPW2200 version drivers you are using. For version 1.0.6, it should be "ipw2200-fw-2.3.tgz".

The firmware dir isn't "/usr/lib/hotplug", but in "/lib/firmware". after downloading the firmware, extract the tar ball in the "/lib/firmware".

You also need to have the kernel compiled with the following options:
[Device Drivers] -> [Generic Driver Options] -> Hotplug firmware loading support.

Hope this helps.
