i looked at your nvidia log. you said this is a fresh install, correct? if so, the kernel source is not installed during the install, by default. are you sure you have the kernel source installed? in terminal as root type urpmi kernel-source to check if the source is installed. if it isn't, it will list available sources to install. install the source that matches your kernel & run the nvidia script again.
Yes it is installed, I have checked that the source matches the kernel version. I did try removing the kernel source and reinstalled it just in case, it didnt give me any options as to what version I could install...
For now, I have to sort out another problem thats cropped up - i cant mount my cdrom anymore (serves me right for reinstalling mandrake, heh). fstab here I come :|
I have successfully managed to install the 6106 drivers, however I still have the same problem where the monitor turns off as a result of not being able to display the signal. Im going to try the 6111 drivers next.
Im beginning to wonder if there is something wrong with tthe monitor, as it's a plug and play, but isnt always detected (It can display up to 1280x1024, but sometimes it windows it thinks it's max is 1024x768). I'll experiment with an old Voodoo3 and see if that works if I run out of opttions.
i'm temporarily out of ideas. that card should work out of the box with the drivers MDK provides. in lieu of a better idea, & seeing as your CD mounting is borked, i'd just reinstall & hopefully the card will be detected properly this time. you have nothing to lose since this is a fresh install. if i think of anything else, i'll let you know.
we must have been posting at the same time, 'cause i just noticed you had another post. you mentioned plug n play. do you have plug & play turned off in your bios? plug & play & linux do not play nicely together. if you can't get the issue worked out, i'd disable plug & play & rerun the video config, or as i suggested in my last post, reinstall with plug & lay disabled.
The 6111 drivers still fail. However I was able to get into KDE (using 6106 drivers) by going into Failsafe mode, running init 3, logging in as root, running 'modprode nvidia' and finally 'startx'. I was quite pleased that I figured that out .
It's set on "nvidia" at the moment which is what the 6106 drivers need. I have to figure out why it's not compiling, the log doesnt actually give any specific errors.
