Upgrade from 2008 spring to latest version of Mandriva

I am thinking of doing this via the automatic update.
Any advice / warnings?

The main reason is because I can not use Skype - there are sound problems and I want to see if this solves it.

If you have not read these links yet, do so before you try an upgrade.

http://mandrivausers.org/index.php?/...release-notes/

and

http://mandrivausers.org/index.php?/...2010-0-errata/

Pay attention to the errata, before and after the upgrade, if there are any problems. Personally, I have not had good success with upgrades. I much prefer to backup my data, and do a clean install. I don't use Skype, so no comment there.

Good luck with the upgrade.

Well I think I'd do a little more bug hunting about your sound issue with Skype, but since 2008 is EOL it might be time to upgrade. I backed up everything and did an auto-update from 2008.1 to 2010. Everything has been flawless so far. I had a 2010 install disk ready to use because as your other responder says, auto-updates can be problematic. This time I got lucky I guess. Go for it. Have some fun. Learn something.
