ok, having sifted through loads of Forums and questions, and google results, i haven't been able to figure this out...
I'm relatively new to linux, running Mandrake 9.2, i installed off the 3 CD's (Download edition) but i don't have them any more (lent to a friend etc.) so i downloaded the ISO of disk 2, 'cos it had what i wanted on it, and i also got the /Base/ folder off Disk 1, as it's got the listings in it, due to limitations on disk space, i only got what i needed, my problem is, i've mounted the ISO, and it reads fine, auto mounts on startup, as read only, but when i try and add it as a Software Media, i point the Path to the mounted ISO (/mnt/ISO/Mand) and point the "Relative path to hdlist/synthesis to the /Base folder (/home/penguin/Base) i get the error: "
Unable to access medium "Install Disk 2".
this could happen if you mounted manually the directory when creating the medium
any ideas why, and what i can do to *fix* this... "Install Disk 2" is what i named it (checked by usin a dif. name)
Maybe this helps a bit? Regenerating the installation CD media: Installation CD media can be regenerated automatically. Insert Install CD 1 in the drive and open a console. Become root with su command. Then type urpmi.addmedia --distrib removable://mnt/cdrom (if /mnt/cdrom is the path to your CD drive).
well, i tryed using uprmi.addmedia from the command line this is what i write...
urpmi.addmedia --distrib Mand. Disk2 file://mnt/iso/Mand/Mandrake/RPMS2 with file://home/penguin/Base
but i just get the "help" listing...

I think the systhesis in the cdrom or in the mounted iso in this case. Try urpmi.addmedia --distrib removable://base location of mounted iso/ ?
Well you can allways go to plf and add main source to be used. That way you don't have to have any of those cds. Of course this aplies only if you have internet connection at use.
err, small problemo now, i use the code the easy urpmi thingy gives me, it says "Added medium ***" and then hangs, does nothing at all... any ideas people ? i HAVE tryed using like loads of dif. mirrors so that's not it...
If you still have the iso the correct command to add the mounted iso to your urpmi database is:
urpmi.addmedia "source name" file://mnt/iso/Mand/Mandrake.
The hdlist is at the root of the mounted iso. So only giving the path to the root of the mounted iso is enough

I added a main source as this suggests & whenever I try to add software it still tries to load from the cds. Do I also need to remove the cd entries in software manager? Thanks
you only need to remove them (i think) if you're using the Graphical one, use the command line (urpmi file, or urpmi --auto file, the latter installes dependancies automatically) and you don't need to bother. (FYI i also added them via the command line)
