uninstall question, difficulties for a non computer literate person
I have the task of uninstalling Mandriva Linux from a computer. it is the 2006 version. I looked at the manual but it just didn't make any sense to me. I tried to log on as root and use (x): lilo-u in the konsole but I just kept getting syntax errors. I don't understand e
Can you provide more details e.g. do you have windows on that machine, if not do yu plan to use windows on it, do you want to reclaim the disc space for use with windows or another Linux based OS etc.
After a one hour search I thought the answer to my dilemma was presented on a silver platter. No such luck.
I also am trying to unistall Mandrake from a dual boot system (XP Home) but can't figure it out. Someone said in another post, it just takes more practice. Unfortunately, I need someone at hand to explain/show me what to do and that ain't happenin'.
So, how do I uninstall mandrake 10.1 from a dual boot, XP Home system?
Thank you in advance.
Jim
Thanks for the thought but XP can't see the physical HDD that Mandrake is on. Also, I don't think that would get rid of the registry associations or the BIOS settings. At the same time, I don't know if those things are necessary as the registry is a Windows phenomenon... I think?
First remove the Mandrake bootloader (if you were using it) by booting from a Windows boot floppy and doing "fdisk /mbr" at the command propmt. You could also boot from a windows installation CD, go to recovery mode and do "fixmbr". Once the Linux bootloader has been removed, boot from the Mandrake installation disk and follow the instructions for setup. When you get to the partitioning section, delete the partition that has your Mandrake installation, write the changes to disk and then reboot your machine. Windows should then be able to recognise the free space and you can then format it for use with windows.
