Question Should md5sums match?

I downloaded the 3 Mandrake 9.2 ISO's.
Their md5sums match what is posted on the web, so I know my downloads are good.
I used GCombust to burn the ISO's to CD-R. No errors were reported, and min buffer fill was 81%, indicating no underrun.
After the CD's were burned, just for fun I did
md5sum /dev/scd0
the result for each of the CD's was not what I got when I ran it on the ISO's.
Is this normal?
Should md5sum on the scsi device report different values than md5sum on the ISO on disk?

Thanks in advance,
- TSloth

I wouldn't worry about it. I could be wrong, but if you're md5suming the disc itself, it might be taking into account the lead-in and lead-out data, and other things which might not be included in the ISO file. So long as the checksums for the ISO files are fine, you should be fine.

They should match but the method you used to md5sum the cd can give false negatives. See my post in this link which thoroughly discusses the problem and the solution:

The script I give there can also be used to generate accurate isos for any cd.

md5sums match now

Thanks for your replies, Thymox and kilgoretrout.

The procedure that kilgoretrout referenced is producing the same md5sums from the CD that I got from the disk iso's and as were posted on the internet.
