Second Stage Ramdisk, CDROM issues

I am trying to install Mandrake 9.1 on my machine but I cannot boot the installer. The systems stops at "Could not uncompress second stage ramdisk. This is probably an [bad English] hardware error while reading the data. (this may be caused by a hardware failure or a Linux kernel bug)"

I remember from trying to install Mandrake off of CDs a number of years ago that there was an issue with some CD drives.

My hardware configuration is 700MHz Athlon, 324MB ram, IOMega ZipCD, Creative Labs TNT2 32MB.

Does anyone know if there is still the issue with the ZipCD drives and if there is a work around? (I believe they said they were working on fixing the issue 2 versions ago.)

Thanks
