Screen area acting funny in MDK 2006

Ive got an ATI card, and Im using the Powerpack, which has the provided drivers. I choose my usual driver on install (flgrx i think, something like that), and my screen resolution 1400x1050. Now, when I boot, the edges of the screen are cut off, and if I mouse over them, they scroll? I want to disable this if at all possible, because its annoying has heck. If I drop back to the 1280x1024 resolution, it works fine, everything is just blurry (its not native for this LCD). Any suggestions? Its almost like it expects the screen to be 15" instead of 14.1". Im lost...

Something that X can do is provide a "virtual desktop area" in that you set the resolution higher to what the monitor displays. Hence when you get to the edge of the monitor is scrolls until it reaches the end of the "virtual desktop area".

This sounds like what has happend here.

Check your X configuration again from the Mandriva Control Centre making sure that no virtual resolution has been setup. If it hasn't then you can edit the X config file directly and remove the entries that are causing this behaviour.

It could also be that your monitor is not setup to display the required resolution - check that you have selected the correct monitor/configured it to the correct parameters.

Post back the contents of /etc/X11/XF86Config

I'm thinking it is probably the monitor settings which are wrong, but without looking at most of the file I can't tell.

One thing you could do is re-install xorg (or whatever) using the linux driver install utility from ATI's website. When you run it, answer "NO" to the questions about the virtual desktop. Then, you should be able to get rid of it that way. here's the link:

https://support.ati.com/ics/support/...ge&folderID=27

you want to run the driver installer.

heres the output:
Also, I know its not running in 1400x1050, because the screen is fuzzy, if that makes sense.

glxgears only gives about 350fps, whereas I got around 700-900 in LE2005, so something is definitely wrong.

Well, apparently, it only detects my screen as 1280x1024. Should this be a bug report somewhere? This is pretty screwed up, since LE2005 detected it fine. Thanks Mandiva

sorry, the link didn't do what i expected. you have to click on "Linux Drivers & Software", then whichever ATI card series you have, eventually you will see "ATI Driver Installer". Download and run that with the instructions on the ATI site.

Yeah, I found it. It didnt work the first time.

Second time through, I specified the resolution of the LCD, worked like a charm.

glad to hear it. one thing about that driver though is that it supposedly doesn't work with 2.6 kernel. Are you running 2.6 kernel and if so did you have any trouble?

Yep, 2.6 kernel. No trouble so far at all.
