Samba issue...

I have a strange issue going with Mandriva 2008. I've been using it for about two months now, and I have two NICs, one connected to the internet and one connected via crossover cable to another machine. The secondary machine is used to stream movies from my primary machine. I simply set up a share from my videos folder, and I can stream the movies right across. The thing is, it doesn't always work. I can access the share for days on end, and then it will just quit working. I cannot understand why this is, because when I go into the Samba settings, everything is still set up. I check to see that the service is running and it is. Its as though it just works whenever it feels like it. Usually I'll look at it for a while and get frustrated, then leave and come back a few hours later and it will work just fine? Has anyone else ever had an issue with the samba service in this distro?

make sure that there is a route set on the nic for your internal NIC. set the metric to be less than the external NIC

eg
eth0 (inside) should have a metric of 1
eth1 (outside) should have a metric of 2 or more

traffic will try the shortest path first

Theres something else odd about the network configuration. My NIC connected to the internet is eth0, but the other one made itself eth2. Shouldnt it have gone in numerical order? And about the metric, the internal nic is set to less than the external nic. But they are set to 10 and 20. So I don't get it.
