RedHat user giving props to MDK

Hey all,

I've been using linux for just under a year and have tried RedHat , Fedora Core 1, Fedora Core 2, RHEL WS 3, SuSE 9 Professional, FreeBSD 5.1, and now Mandrake.

I just installed MDK this mornign and downloaded all the updates. I must say, this is a great distro for newbies in that it is very easy to use. I am very familiar with redhat now in that it's what I mainly use. But I wanted to find something for my mothers computer as she has no concept of computer security and refuses to use a firewall or spybot (basically, anything could help her online).

I don't think she could handle Fedora, though I don't think it's hard to use, she would. So I wanted to try Mandrake as I've always heard it's pretty easy. Well, I installed it on my laptop this morning and guess what? It's gonna stay there. It'ss be a great tool for me to help convince people to make the switch.

Though I still like the RedHat/Gnome interface better (I think it looks more professional) Mandy is gonna be my new laptop distro.

Just wanted to give Mandrake some props on the good job. Thanks.

I'm in the same boat. I am switching to Mandrake as my fallback OS when I get to aggrevated learning Gentoo.

Yes, I've been trying to migrate over to linux for over 6 months now. My previous version of linux was RH8 before I got my computer upgraded and had to reinstall WindowsXP (repairs failed with new motherboard). Recently I read some very interesting articles about some security flaws in the RH8 kernal, so I've been reluctant to use my RH8 CDs again (publishers edition: Learning RedHat Linux by O'reily).

Anyways, After downloading all three isos and realizing that they have a size that exceeds the space on any CD-R I own (711MB). Even after attempting to burn the CDs on several computers I have been unsuccessful at installing Mandrake.

Mandrake DVD iso

I'm going on the website this afternoon and downloading the DVD iso (the only logical way to fit that amount of data through an appropriate medium).

I really really want to run Linux!

or...

If anybody knows any good websites that discuss making the appropriate boot disk, I wouldn't have a problem placing the .iso files (this will save me 2 days of downloading the DVD) onto a partition and installing from the Hard Drive.

How to install from the Hard Drive?
