Go through the Mandriva install CD as an "upgrade", and it's going to check to make sure that all your packages are up to snuff, but don't let it update any of them. Just skip on through to the final summary screen where you can set your bootloader.

I've experienced some problems with using LILO instead of Windows boot.ini as your bootloader. In my case, I had a rather conniving WinXP install that kept trying to overwrite the MBR (Master Boot Record), but eventually left me with a scrolling "L99" error. My suggestion is to install GRUB, and once it's all configured, copy (by using the "dd" command) /boot/grub/grub.bin to a floppy, or flash drive, and use Windows' boot.ini as the primary boot loader.

when i make upgrade i choose to install Grup as you said , and the installation is works fine and i restart to find that Grup is installed without copying any file .

but i face another problem is that when i open the linux i don't have internet connection ( i have Adsl ) when i switch to windows the internet connections is works fine .

sometimes while using linux the internet connection is back by itself , sometimes not , i don't know what is the reason for this problem .
