Problem setting up my network

I am using Mandrake 9.2 and I am having trouble to setup my network. when I click the wizard button it says that no ethernet card is installed, but my NIC listed in the hardware section.

could this be a problem with the nforce2 drivers? I am using an 8rda+ and everything (AGP gart, IDE driver anc sound driver) is working fine.

I've searched the forum and found that problems with the onboard nic are common but I couldn't find a solution for my problem. can anyone help me?

Got the same problem with my board, the only soultion i can give you is to go and buy a nic you can pick them up cheap.

I have yet to find a soultion that will get the onboard nic to work.

I am not aware of a working soultion for 9.2; on nVidia's site there is drivers for mandrake v9.1; redhat and so on, but not for 9.2. I actually managed to get the nic working when i had Redhat installed with the nVidia driver.

heres the link:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_nforce_1.0-0261

I am not sure if other new distros can now properly handle 8rda(+) (probably more of a nforce2 problem i am guessing) boards with out requiring drivers of the net.

I personal would have preferred to use the onboard nic, but i just thought i would save some time and headache and just slap in one of my spare nics; although i would still love to get it to work.

unfortunatley I don't have an spare nic at the moment (I've gave it away to a friend after I bought this mobo), I know they aren't expensive but I am not willing to spend any money on one right now.

after searching the web I found this driver: http://www.hailfinger.org/carldani/l...hes/forcedeth/

can they be the solution?

You need to install the the kernel-source that matches your kernel and then install the nvidia src.rpm

Go to console and do "uname -r" to see your kernel version. On my box the result of "uname -r" is 2.4.22-10mdk, so I would need the file "kernel-source-2.4.22-10mdk.i586.rpm".

Install your kernel-source and then install the nvidia src.rpm with "rpm --rebuild <src.rpm>".

Once that has finished, you should have a normal .rpm file in /usr/src/RPM/RPMS/i586. Install as a normal rpm

You should then have the nvnet driver installed and working
