Day 2 of Mandrake 9.1 ... Can't get printing to work. Got an HP 1205 (all in one thingy) which will scan but not print. Appears to be configured OK. Sent some tests to the printer but no joy. Found KJobViewer which has 4 print jobs the first of which oes between a state of Processing and Queued and has pages not of 1498 and rising ... I can't delete anything (not even openeing a terminal, logging in as root via su and running kjobviewer helps). Any help on a) deleting these jobs and b) getting the printer going will be v gratefully received. Ta. Pete
Also, you can follow the setup instructions for the various printing systems on LinuxPrinting.org (use Printer Listings to find your printer). http://www.linuxprinting.org/
There is a special package in Mandrake 9.1 for HP all-in-one printers; I think it has a five or six letter name, starting with hp, so if you let the package manager display all available packages alphabetically you should be able to find it. If it's not in the manager (but in the unistall manager) it is installed and the problem lies elsewhere...
Thanks, Mathieu,
Unfortunately, it's not that simple. It worked great during 9 months. Now it's gone. Even after reinstallation of backed up <homedir>. The only way in my experience: wipe off the HD, clean reinstall, and work calmly for other 6-9 months.
My best friend: CD-RW.
OS reinstalled and printing is back for a while. However, when I start whatever program from the shell I get this:
DCOPServer up and running
Invalid entry: (missing '=') at /usr/share/applink-mdk/Configuration/Printing/Printinter Utility Program.desktop:17
DCOPServer up and running
Invalid entry: (missing '=') at /usr/share/applink-mdk/Configuration/Printing/Printinter Utility Program.desktop:19
I know its a bad question, because I never got an answer in the past, but maybe somebody knows what is that about?
