Not able to build simple drivers for Mandriva: Need help

Hi All,

I am trying to learn Device Drivers for Linux. I am using Mandirva 2011, 2.6.38.7 version. I am not able build. I am getting following error. Please do help me.

ERROR: Kernel configuration is invalid.
include/generated/autoconf.h or include/config/auto.conf are missing.
Run 'make oldconfig && make prepare' on kernel src to fix it.

WARNING: Symbol version dump /usr/src/linux/Module.symvers
is missing; modules will have no dependencies and modversions.

Building modules, stage 2.
/usr/src/linux/scripts/Makefile.modpost:42: include/config/auto.conf: No such file or directory
make[2]: *** No rule to make target `include/config/auto.conf'. Stop.
make[1]: *** [modules] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux'
make: *** [default] Error 2

Ok..did you read the error message, and do what it says??? It told you:
Code:
Run 'make oldconfig && make prepare' on kernel src to fix it.
Did you do it? Do you have your kernel source installed, and autoconfig installed? If not, install those packages from your online repositories, and follow the directions given to you by the error.
