hi! I've been a big fan on Mandrake linux 10.x series so far.. but to my disapointment i can't get it install (10.1 or 10.2 (beta 2) on my main comp getting the msg ""no CDROM device detected"".. i've tried google time and time again.. anyway
This are my specs
P4 2.8 CPU c
Gigabyte 865PE (with serial ATA support, AGP X8)
512 ram
one 80 gig sata HD and one 120 gig sata HD (seperate HD's.. not raided)
geforce 5200 FX
A06 pioneer DVD burner/cdr-w
lite-on 52X cdr-w
The I've tried alot of stuff.. including the F1, alt1 it all just comes up as "no cdrom device found" i suspect the current kernel used in mandrake 10.1 and 10.2 beta doesn't support my mother board yet (my friend said something it might have to do with the "silcon image"?).. or something
someone help this poor comp out it's suffering... it's running windows XP 0_o
yes it fails on both drives... (aopen? not sure what you're talking about....)
i'll test your suggestions now thanks
"2) I think it is more a bios config issue......if (1) fails see if you can disable plugnplay configs ?
3) then have a look at knoppix cd to see if it detects a change?"
P.S : I just updated my bios.. (no changes.. still fail) how do i "disable plugnplay configs" there is a PnP/something section... but it isn't just a plain
PnP support : enable/auto/disable

ah... i have idea.. but no idea how to do it.. but since i have the images still on HD... can i install mandrake using those?... i tried the option "hard disk" but it says "no partitions found" (FTP etc isn't a option for me...)
I have the same problem, but on a slightly different setup.
P4 3.0 GHz
Abit IS7-E (intel ICH5 chipset)
36Gb SATA (raptor )
30GB ATA100
160Gb SATA
(no raid on any of the drives)
liteon DVD burner (unshure of the model number, but it shouldn't matter)
1 GIG DDR RAM
GF 6800 ULTRA
Audigy 2 zc
Knoppix boots up just fine (it's a bit older version though).
The install thows out the message "no CDROM device detected" even though it's currently running on it.
I have the dvd version fo mandrake 10.1
hmm.. i've just tried SuSe.. yea it works for some reason no installation probls.... but i still want prefer mandake 100 times more xD.. i downloaded a copy of knoppix and tried booting that... it didn't work.. i'll try to write down all the stuff i see that sems suspicous (i noticed the first time code saying "segemtation error" and things)
