Hello,

I encountered the same problem, but I found another article here on the site.
I think you installed the wrong rpm from mandrake, you should install the kernel-source-2.4.22-10mdk.i586.rpm , I guess you installed kernel-2.4.22... and not the source
it doesn't take much time.
You just have to dubbelclick it ,wait for about 5 minutes.
after that go to the directory /usr/src/linux (it is a symlink)
after that follow steps
1) cp arch/i386/defconfig .config
2) make oldconfig
3) make dep
and then
rpm -rebuild NVIDIA_nforce-1.0-0261.src.rpm
if it asks something about overwriting type "y" in small letter
after that goto /usr/src/RPM/RPMS/i586/ and dubbelclick on the NVIDIA rpm

and that's it, goto your mandrake control center and it should work

Greetz

You do not have to create symlinks thx to the kernel-source rpm it al goes like nothing.

www.antblue.tk
I get to the command: rpm -rebuild NVIDIA_nforce-1.0-0261.src.rpm and it gives me an error saying:

Cannot access /usr/lib/rpm/rpmb: Permission denied

or something really close to that (can't remember now, since I am in windows).

I have everything else up to this point.

I am newb to linux since I will start using linux alot more once I can get internet working.

You should log into as root user.

probably you logged in as a normal user.
Always when you install software, you should use a superuser
and root is the standard one.

ciao

Normally your rebuild should be in dir
/usr/share/rpm/rpms

try that and other wise didi you do chown 0:0 when you installed de kernel sources?

how do I change my rebuild dir?

All I did was regular install I believe, as I knew absolutly nothing about linux when I installed mandrake. I'm getting there...

ok, so I am now typing from within mandrake 9.2

I don't know what the hell was going on, but I completely wiped out all my linux partitions, fresh install, followed jazzboy's instructions as soon as mandrake booted up, and it worked. That was deffinitely weird, now to go configure everything and start enjoying my linux experiance....
