if i were you i would get some hard copy documentation.
if you installed x windows, then try "startx"
this will give you a graphical interface which you will be more familiar with.

Too good! just type: startx
and it should then load into a Windows-like interface. Once you're inside, go to your "start" button and go to your Control Center. In there is an option to boot your computer into the Graphical Mode. That way ,you won't always have to type 'startx'. Or, I could be completely wrong and it's the blind leading the blind. Good luck!

thanks

X Windows is basically something that does graphical-mode with Linux.

When you typed startx, did it give you any error messages? Or did it do nothing?

I think you should reinstall it.

Mandrake 9.2 should have took you to a login screen automatically if there isn`t something wrong with X. If it dumped you into a text mode it means there is something wrong. After you typed startx and it didn`t work it should have given you an error message. You probably had a bad install or didn`t configure X correctly during installation (wrong video driver or something) that`s all I can think of. May need to reinstall.
