KMS is not well supported by some Intel graphic cards. If while booting you can't see anything on your screen (laptop or desktop), try disable KMS by putting the UMS mode. Simply edit your command line on the gfxboot by pressing [F3], then choose Default, end add i915.modeset=0 to the command line. Just press [Enter] to boot your computer. This is just one possibility. What video hardware is in that system?

What errors do you get if you run the command 'startx' ( without the quotes ) from the command line?

Did you just press enter when that message appears?

It would appear your system is failing to boot early in the boot sequence.

Was this a clean install, or an upgrade from 2009?

After you press Enter, do you see any disk activity? If yes, we need to go look at the logs to get a handle on what is failing. If no, then I would bet we have a problem with grub, and the disk setup.

Let me know...

Check out the Mandriva 2010 Errata

There is a mention of possible blank screen issues for certain video chips. The workaround is provided.

that is the end of the kernel command line. In order to follow the errata instructions, you must
Quote:
add i915.modeset=0 to the command line
before pressing Enter. IOW, type a space at the end of the line, then type

i915.modeset=0

Then press Enter. You don't mention doing that.

You should also try the speedboot=no option.
