I'm going nuts. I'm a big time newbie, I seem to be having a problem with my cd's. when I first installed Mandrake 10, it read my cd's, K3b worked fine.........then........da,da,daa.......it didn't. I have 'auto read' on, but nothing. I go into home & mount that way, still nothing. When I log off & shut down, it seems 'Fail' in unmounting, as it says something like "Unable to unmount, Dev busy"
one mistake that i have made a couple times is that i mount my cdrom to /cdrom/, then try to unmount it while in that directory . . . u must change out of the directory where your cdrom is mounted before you can unmount it.
I have exactly the same problem. I just installed Mandrake 10 using the powerpac 5cd version. I then used k3b to burn a copy of my cds and it did it no worries, all 5. I then did some other stuff and wanted to burn another cd but the drive would not activate. I frigged around for a bit then finally rebooted and it worked again on restart. That is, I could then browse the cds using konquerer,,,,,,,, so I then launched k3b again, but lo and behold my cdrom drive is unavailabe.
I used the desktop icon and rightclick/unmount, but it said the device is busy. I can eject the CD but that is all.
I too would appreciate a fix for this problem. When I have finished downloading, I will reboot again, and NOT use k3d, I will try roast instead.
Do you have magicdev installed? It is the deamon responsible for autorunning/playing cds.
I was having similar problems with mount/unmount and locking up, until I uninstalled magicdev.
Hi there, I went ahead and checked and found that proggy so I removed. It made absolutely no difference After a reboot I burnt some more files then it does not work, same thing in other words as before.
not a fix necessarily, but at least you can check what is using the device & keeping it busy. once you know what the culprit is, you can at least kill the process & possibly find a fix.
in a terminal as root, type..............
Code:
lsof -V /dev/name of device
hit enter
(example: lsof -V /dev/hdc)
if you get a "command not found" error, then you must first install the lsof package. it's on one of the install CD's, so just use the MCC software installer, or urpmi lsof at command line to install.
I think that is a problem of the mount point/device configuration.
You should check the configuration in the Mandrake Control Center --> mount points --> CD/DVDrom (or something like this I don't remember exactly because I use 9.2BH).
It should be configured as follows:
Type: "iso9660,udf" (it can be set to "auto" too)
Options: supermount (in this situation noauto and user must be unchecked) - if you're configuring the burner, then you have to click on the advanced button and there uncheck "ro" which means read-only.
This is what I configured on my desktop and it works properly. Previously I had the same problem.
After this you should not use the icon to unmount the cd/dvd only push the button on the device to eject cd.
Regards
