mplayer..

hi..
i'm using mandrakelinux10.0(official) and mplayer-1.0-0.pre3.13mdk & mplayer-gui-1.0-0.pre3.13mdk
i try to download the latest mplayer-1.0-0.pre5.7.mdk.src.rpm from the pbone.net
but in Kget i get the following error:
the file or folder /Mandrake-old/10.1/SRPMS/main/mplayer-1.0-0.pre5.7.mdk.src.rpm does not exist.
i want to know what's the problem. is the mirror has error or i can't install the 10.1's on 10.0? is there any way i can do that & make the current updated?
thankx.

Use urpmi to update your packages instead of using third party repositories that can cause incompatibilities with your system. Go to easyurpmi and get the instructions on how to setup repositories for your current distro. Also include the plf repository. Once you have configured them, use the Mandrake Contro Center software module to install and upgrade packages.

u instructed to use easyurpmi..ok. But the size of plf is around 18MB & on my 56k modem it's not possible to download it in one go ..so is there any option from where i can pause it & resume the download next day(probably) like i usually do with long files in Kget.

"wget -c" will easily continue any interrupted download. also the first package you got was a source package (src) you would need to compile it etc... you don't really want that if you're on rpm's anyway

Yup, good advice above.

Avoid the compilation and go right to the urpmi sources.

It will save you a boatload of troubles.

Also you may want to

urpmi mplayer plugins codecs

To pick up other things which Mplayer needs

See my sig about setting up urpmi which provides more detailed instructions about mplayer and DVD players.
