more resolving host problems

hello,

I have been using mandrake for two years now and have rarely encountered any problems with my adsl connection. Usually, when I upgrade to a newer version of mandrake, i have to modify my modprobe.conf file to stop all the "resolving host" nonsense. This last week, my connection has started acting up. i have the slow connection/resolving host problem in mozilla, firefox, konquerer and so on. i have done the two common tricks (loosely approximated here)

1) about:config network.dns.ipv6
2) modprobe.conf alias ipv6 off and net10pf

but neither of them seem to work. i did notice that the top of my modprobe.conf file says the script is automatically generated, so is there a chance that my modifications are being overwritten later? if there is any basic commands that i can run that would illuminate root of this problem for you, do let me know and i will post what they generate.

Thanks for any and all help,
Randal
